7-Day Itinerary with Ghadames

Day 1: Arrival & Sabratha

Route: Tripoli→ Sabratha Tripoli (150 km total) Sabratha was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. It is home to one of the most important and beautiful Roman theaters in the Mediterranean. The site offers a fascinating and enjoyable introduction to Libya’s Roman history. Return to Tripoli.

Day 2: Leptis Magna

Route: Tripoli→ Leptis Magna Tripoli (260 km total)

Leptis Magna, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982, is one of the largest and most significant Roman cities in the Mediterranean and still preserves its beauty and remarkable setting. Highlights include the basilica, amphitheater, Punic market, theater, and many other notable landmarks. Return to Tripoli and enjoy free time to wander the city.

Day 3: Tripoli to Ghadames

Route: Tripoli→ Gasr El-Haj→ Nalut→ Ghadames (600 km total) Head southwest, stopping at Gasr El-Haj (Amazigh granary) and Nalut to explore Berber antiquities. Continue to Ghadames Oasis. Dinner and overnight in Ghadames.

Day 4: Ghadames Oasis & Old City

Visit Ghadames Oasis, the “Pearl of the Desert,” known for its palm groves, ancient architecture, and distinctive UNESCO-listed old city. Guided tour of the city, and lunch in a traditional home. Afternoon 4×4 trip to the nearby sand dunes for sunset where Libya meets Tunisia and Algeria. Dinner and overnight in Ghadames.

Day 5: Ghadames → Tripoli via Kabao, Tourmisa & Gharyan

Route: Ghadames→ Kabao→ Tourmisa→ Gharyan→ Tripoli (600 km total) Depart from Ghadames, and visit Kabao old city, Tourmisa (mountain views), and Gharyan (pottery and traditional cave homes) along the way. Arrive in Tripoli for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Old Tripoli

Visit the old city, markets, mosques (if possible), and the early 20th-century Italian neighborhood. Recommended Sunday-Thursday (local business days).

Day 7: Departure

Transfer to Tripoli Airport for departure.
